During the summer, Village Park plays host to free movies in the park, live music programs, and other special events. If you need to cool off, you can always throw on your swimsuit and splash around in the Splash Pad, an aquatic recreation area sure to keep you and your young ones entertained. If you’re not in the mood to get splashed, hop a ride on the Rotary Express Train, a scale replica of an old-fashioned steam train. If you can’t have fun here, check your pulse.
Here, you can work on your tennis swing, throw some horseshoes, play volleyball with your friends and family, or challenge your on-court rival to a game of around the world. There’s also a softball field, a lovely greenway that will take you all the way to the NC Research Campus, and plenty of shady spots for picnics.
NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. was born right here in Kannapolis. The town is proud of their racing heritage, and built Dale Earnhardt Plaza to commemorate the life and accomplishments of their beloved #3. Walk among the flowers, pose next to the bronze statue of Dale, and walk the Dale Trail, a self-guided tour that lets you walk in the footsteps of a racing legend and local hero.
